Next meeting May 17th
The group has read and enjoyed other book by Geraldine Brooks so this year we will tackle March, the story of the father of the women in Louisa May Alcott’s popular book, Little women. From both Little Women and other books that she has read the author creates a fictional world for Mr March and tells of his experiences during the time of the Civil War. March leaves behind his family to aid the Union cause and the experiences he has change his marriage and challenge his strongly held beliefs. After being wounded in the Civil War he ends up in a military hospital and is nursed back to health by Marmee. In flashbacks we learn of his earlier life as a peddlar, his courtship of Marmme, his anit-slavery activities, and his passion for educational reform. If you would like to join us for a discussion of this book ask for your copy at the library or just come and join us on the day. All are welcome.
