Formally known as Book Talk at Warrawong District Library, and run successfully for over 10 years by the lovely Diane, Warrawong would like to encourage new members along to The Open Book. The Book club meet on the first Monday of the month.
The next meeting will be held on the 3rd of June in the library which is at 69-71 King Street Warrawong. The phone number is 4227 8133. The book that we’ll be talking about is J.K Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy.
The May discussion about Colm Toibin’s Brooklyn brought about some lively discussion. It is Ireland in the early 1950s and for Eilis Lacey, as for so many young Irish girls, opportunities are scarce. So when her sister arranges for her to emigrate to New York, Eilis knows she must go, leaving behind her family and her home for the first time. The story weaves in and out of Eilis feeling homesick yet coming into her own. Were there too many unanswered questions left in the end? We also listened to Colm read an excerpt from the book. The whole interview can be heard at www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00j74mq – The World Book Club.
