All That I Am

by     Anna Funder June 2014                     reviewed  by Douglas

In the vast maelstrom of conflicting ideologies and inspirations that shaped the history of a defeated demoralised Germany through to the babarity of Hitler’s Reich, we learn of the lives of some of the prominent proponents of a more egalitatian Society, in a ‘Social Democratic’ system.

Real people being inspiringly heroic and all too humanly fallible.

Mostly we are spared the more gruesome details, but still feel a revulsion at despicable acts by people in power.

I think Ms Funder has succeeded admirably in her sensitive portrayal of Ruth, Hans, Dora and Ernest.

A welcome spotlight into a very dark era

Next meeting  –  Monday 7 July @ 2pm.
New members welcome.

Just a quick note to say that Warrawong Book Talk has had a bit of a name change to ‘The Open Book’.
